Our Story

Desk Job Life
I spent my entire 20s and half my 30s working everyday building digital companies, sitting at a desk and thinking play time was a bad thing. I missed weddings, funerals, travel and more… Then one day a good friend of mine called me out. He lives a life of “at least one adventure every day…” and way too many energy drinks. However, he’s also got plenty of time for play and building his own companies. Knowing death can come
anytime, I decided it was time to add some living to my life. -
Adventure Time
While searching for a work truck to haul random stuff, I saw an FJ Cruiser for sale. I had always loved the funky looking dinosaur throwbacks and decided, “Fuck it… buy that thing”. From there I started off-roading… mostly alone at first, then with others. Soon I was going on annual two week trips into Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and back (I’m in Arizona). I was hooked… I never thought I’d love it so much or have such a good time crawling over rocks and risking rollovers on mountain passes, but here I am, LOVING IT!

Sharing w/ Others
The longer I do this, the more people I meet who love it too and the more friends I have that see my stories and posts and say, “OMG that looks like so much FUN!!!! Take me!”. I also started realizing there was no end to upgrades or toys and equipment. I decided to organize IPAHALA around the idea of sharing this passion with others through exposure via off-road or overlanding excursions or with products designed or curated by me that I’ve enjoyed on my adventures. I hope you enjoy all of this and find your own adventures.
The Fleet
The fleet is growing! We started with the FJ Cruiser and have recently
added a rock crawling ’85 Toyota Pickup 4×4, a ’94 Triple-Locked Land
Cruiser and a Dirt Bike.
FJ Truck Truck
The Over-lander, the Hero in a Half-Shell, the all in one mobile campaign, cross any terrain, get you where you want to go and stay there for a while, BEAST! The FJ cruiser has evolved from a light adventuring, slightly rock-crawling, mostly stock vehicle to a fully loaded Over-landing rig with a solar/propane powered kitchen, rooftop tent, side awning with optional enclosed room and seats for 5. But even all that extra weight doesn’t negate that his 3″ lift and 35″ tires can still crawl over most obstacles.
The G.O.A.T.
Wildly heralded as the greatest Land Cruiser released in the US and the last of the solid front axles, the Triple Locked FZJ80 Land Cruiser is the ultimate in off-road capability and adventure transport. With a 4″ lift and monster 37″ tires, this 7 seater can carry you and a crew anywhere you want to go. It has creature comfort for expeditions and rock-crawling, mud-swimming, sand surfing, snow gliding capability for overcoming any obstacles in your way.
Marty McCrawler
After breaking the FJ Cruiser more than once trying to crawl over rocks, it was made readily apparent that to fully indulge in the glory of climbing over large chunks of stone, I would need to get a smaller lighter vehicle that could take a beating. Enter Marty McCrawler. Originally custom made to compete in the King of the Hammers stock division, this guy is anything BUT stock… With more magic done to his construction than I know how to describe, he’s ready to conquer any rock garden or waterfall you point him at.
Ring Ring
Every group needs an over-caffeinated younger brother running around making noise and bragging about how it can do things the others can’t. On this team that would be Ring Ring. Intended as a perfect bike for learning with minimal growing pains or costs, this cheap but well made 4-stroke is actually modeled off the old Honda patents sold many years later to China. Perfect for those who want to learn and even for seasoned riders wanting to tag along with the crew or explore solo parts unreachable by the larger 4x4s.
